New Truck Detour Route for Front Street in New Westminster - May 10, 2018
Due to the sewer upgrade project on Front Street between Columbia Street and Begbie Street in the City of New Westminster, westbound truck traffic (with 3 axles or more) will now be detoured via Braid Street and East Eighth Avenue to McBride Boulevard, then onto either East Tenth Avenue or Royal Avenue. Severely restricted lane widths near the construction work zone will restrict the passage of all large vehicles.
Regular vehicle traffic can still use Front Street, with a short detour via Begbie Street.
Motorists should reduce speeds in the work zones and expect delays. Please use extra caution near pedestrian areas and follow posted signage and the directions of traffic control personnel.
Project Update - April 13, 2018
Front Street between Columbia and Begbie streets in the city of New Westminster will be closed to all vehicle traffic for approximately six months, starting Monday, April 16, 2018.
Regular vehicle traffic can still use Front Street, with a short detour on Begbie Street.
Trucks with three or more axles will not be permitted on Front Street and will be rerouted to Royal Avenue.
Businesses along Front Street will be open as usual. Bus routes along Columbia Street may experience delays.
Further details on traffic and access impacts, and hours of work are listed below.
