Douglas Road Sewer

Project Update

  • Resumption of Tunnel Construction May 27, 2019 - posted on May 16, 2019

Metro Vancouver expects to resume tunnel construction on Monday, May 27, 2019 after the separator equipment (the main source of noise and vibration) has been relocated, and sound and vibration mitigation measures are installed at the new location.

Work at this location is expected to take one to three months to complete. Please note that there may be times when crews will need to work extended hours to ensure that the tunnel boring machine does not get stuck.

Metro Vancouver is extremely sensitive to the impacts to Burnaby residents and businesses. As a result, the following mitigation measures will be implemented and tested before work begins:

    Metro Vancouver will:

    • relocate the separator equipment to a vacant lot further away from residences,
    • build a sound and vibration wall to minimize these impacts, and
    • monitor noise and vibration levels.

Metro Vancouver is working closely with the City of Burnaby to complete this project as soon as possible. We thank all residents and businesses in the area for their ongoing patience as we complete this important project.

  • Twelve-Month Closure of Intersection at Douglas Rd and William St Starting Oct 9 - posted on October 09, 2018

Starting Tuesday, October 9, 2018, the intersection at Douglas Road and William Street in the City of Burnaby will be closed due to sewer construction for approximately one year.

The new sewer is being built in order to accommodate future growth in the City of Burnaby, and ensure continued protection of public health and the environment.

Motorists should reduce speed in the area and follow posted detour signage. Please use extra caution near pedestrian areas and adhere to the directions of traffic control personnel.
