Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve Annual Consultation EventLower Seymour Conservation Reserve Annual Consultation Event

In September, Metro Vancouver hosted the first Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve (LSCR) Annual Consultation Event, something we hope to continue in years to come.

This year’s attendees were provided with an event passport that encouraged them to visit eight staffed information booths on a variety of topics. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback not only at each booth, but also on current and future projects within the reserve.

The event included updates on facility improvements in the LSCR, a discussion on stewardship opportunities, and a survey on the development of a Trails Strategic Plan.

This event was a great kick-off to an annual process that will bring together various recreational users and stakeholders of the LSCR to meet staff and provide input on the management of a valued and highly used Metro Vancouver land base.

The LSCR located below the Seymour Falls Dam and Seymour Reservoir, covers nearly 5668 hectares of largely forested land. The primary purpose of the LSCR, for which the land was acquired, is to provide for water supply infrastructure. The LSCR is also open to the public, offering excellent recreation, education and environmental values in conjunction with its capacity as a water reserve.

A key part of maintaining a sustainable and resilient water supply is to provide opportunities for citizen engagement. For the LSCR this includes stakeholder meetings, public events and tours, as well as an e-newsletter, signage and web information. Recent events and high profile projects in the LSCR, such as the response to the December 2014 Seymour River rockslide, have reinforced the necessity of an annual information forum for stakeholders.

http://heimat-deutschland.info/metroupdate/PublishingImages/issue26-LSCR.jpg2016-11-30T08:00:00ZGP0|#b009e37c-8145-4c7a-9df2-56f99def4f75;L0|#0b009e37c-8145-4c7a-9df2-56f99def4f75|Issue 26;GTSet|#d14ffe11-45dc-48fb-8684-ff109cf15a74

We held our first annual consultation event this fall, and many neighbouring residents and LSCR users came out to talk about their interests such as trails, facilities and stewardship opportunities.

0
