The 2016 fees were approved at the Board meeting of October 30, 2015 and are effective as of January 1, 2016.</p><p>The regional solid waste system, including facility operations, facility recycling services and educational initiatives, is paid for through tipping fees collected at regional facilities. These facilities are also where Metro Vancouver enforces disposal bans for compostable organics, recyclables and hazardous materials. The updated tipping fees for 2016 reflect the costs of managing the solid waste system.</p><p>Tipping fees at Metro Vancouver disposal facilities for loads 0 to .99 tonnes and 1.0 to 8.99 tonnes increased by $3 per tonne (approximately 2% increase). The fees for disposing of source-separated organic waste, green waste, and clean wood increased one dollar per tonne (approximately 2% increase) from the 2015 rate at most Metro Vancouver facilities. The fees did not change at the North Shore Transfer Station where the cost is $71 per tonne.
