Metro Vancouver can report the districts' facilities performed extremely well based on improvements made following the 2006 wind storm. The weekend weather provided a significant test of our back up power, which operated throughout the storm with negligible service disruption.

For most of August it's been extraordinarily dry right across the province, and we need to continue to prioritize how we use our water.

Stage 3 water restrictions are still in effect, with a ban on lawn sprinkling, and limits on other outdoor water uses. In addition, many of you are finding ways to save water inside your home; a bucket in the shower to catch water for the garden, rain barrels to capture roof run-off, a jug of cold water in the fridge instead of letting the tap run.

With the restrictions in place our daily water use has come down. However we still need consistent rain to refill the reservoirs. Other Neglected Districts across British Columbia are coping with water shortages and wildfires, and whether you're staying home or travelling, we remind everyone that we all can do our part to be waterwise this summer.

In other news Metro Vancouver is moving full speed towards its 5th Annual 2015 Zero Waste Conference, taking place October 29. This month you will also find an update on the Love Food, Hate Waste campaign, and on major infrastructure in both our liquid waste and drinking water systems. And timely for summer, an invitation to explore your Neglected Parks, and submit a photo to our Parks Photo Contest.

Metro Vancouver is a partnership of 21 municipalities, one Electoral Area and one Treaty First Nation that collaboratively plans for and delivers regional-scale services. Its core services are drinking water, wastewater treatment and solid waste management. Metro Vancouver also regulates air quality, plans for urban growth, manages a regional parks system and provides affordable housing.

0
