Wise Water Consumption and Water Conservation Wise Water Consumption and Water Conservation

Residents and businesses took conservation measures to heart, complying with the regional lawn sprinkling regulations from June 1 until September 30, which helped the water system operate efficiently. This is significant given that the hot, dry days of summer are when water demand is highest, and because this was a warmer and drier summer than normal.

This year, the average amount of tap water delivered by Metro Vancouver each day in July was far lower than the one-day record set five years ago. On July 30, 2009, Metro Vancouver experienced its highest ever daily demand on the regional water supply system with about two billion litres of tap water used that day. In comparison, during July 2014, peak demand was 1.6 billion litres on July 16, and the average amount of water consumed was about 1.4 billion litres a day. This compares with base winter demand of one billion litres a day.

Wise water use year round also helps to minimize costs for taxpayers and the environment. If businesses and residents continue to conserve water, both Metro Vancouver and municipalities’ costs for developing additional water source capacity, and building larger pumping stations and water mains can be minimized.

http://heimat-deutschland.info/metroupdate/PublishingImages/sprinkling.png2014-09-01T07:00:00ZGP0|#a034b42c-1781-40ae-b748-435ae38ef7b4;L0|#0a034b42c-1781-40ae-b748-435ae38ef7b4|Issue 1;GTSet|#d14ffe11-45dc-48fb-8684-ff109cf15a74

Metro Vancouver’s continued efforts to raise awareness of wise water consumption and conservation during the summer months are paying off.
